Road Safety Resources
Caution: School Zone! – BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC) produced an informative online resource guide to help parents address their school's pedestrian and traffic safety issues.
Safe Kids Canada – information, resources and tools for various injury prevention topics including pedestrian, bicycle and helmet safety.
Resources for Educators – ICBC developed road safety teaching resources for all grade levels, lessons support BC cross-curricular learning outcomes.
Block Parent Program of Canada – education programs and volunteers help to increase the personal safety of children and others in the community.
Bike to School Education – Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition offers school-based bike education programs and resources.
Bike Sense – a handbook developed by the Greater Victoria Cycling Coalition, provides information on traffic laws and riding strategies to help cyclists understand their rights, responsibilities and how best to protect their own safety in traffic.
Bike Smarts Handbook – an educator’s handbook to assist children 7-13 years old to learn safe cycling skills including rules of the road and riding through intersections.
School Transportation Alternatives
HASTE – Hub for Action on School Transportation Emissions is a BC resource that provides information and online tools for School Travel Planning, Walking School Bus/Bicycle Train, IWalk, pedestrian and bicycle safety.
iWalk – iWalk is International Walk to School Week and gives children, parents, school teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking.
Active & Safe Routes to School – a community-based program of Green Communities Canada, provides resources, tools, information and links for schools and communities to create their own unique Active & Safe Routes to School program.
Teaching Children to Walk Safely as They Grow and Develop – a guide developed by the National Centre for Safe Routes to School to help parents and caregivers match their guidance and expectations with their children’s abilities.
Be Bright-Think Right: School Bus Safety – a school bus safety campaign developed by Transport Canada and the RCMP, including tips for student’s parents.
Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) – programs and information to promote alternatives to vehicle use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. BEST's Bike Month in June features safe cycling.
